In Canada, there are two common types of temporary resident visas for individuals who wish to visit family members, tour the country, or engage in short-term activities: the Visitor Visa and the Super Visa.

Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa):

The Visitor Visa, also known as the Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), is designed for individuals who want to visit Canada temporarily for tourism, family visits, business meetings, or other short-term purposes.

Key Features:

  • It allows individuals to stay in Canada for a specified duration, usually up to six months, but the immigration officer at the port of entry determines the actual length of stay.
  • Visitors are not allowed to work or study in Canada unless they have obtained a separate work or study permit.
  • Visitors must prove that they have strong ties to their home country, such as family, employment, or assets, to demonstrate their intention to return home after their visit.
  • Depending on the nationality of the visitor, a Visitor Visa (TRV) may be required to enter Canada. Some countries are exempt from the visa requirement, and their citizens can enter Canada with just an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).
